Iron Lynx and Iron Dames’ triumphant finish in 1000k race at Paul Ricard

Italian racing team, Iron Lynx, has continued its GT World Challenge Endurance campaign at Paul Ricard, with a one-two overall finish for the #71 and #51 car respectively, as well as the #83 Iron Dames machine scoring a Gold Cup podium in second place.

From the start, running on used tyres, Brazilian racer Daniel Serra held the lead from pole position in the #71 car before losing ground in the first hour. But, after the first two stints, the pace began to settle, and Davide Rigon put in a very strong middle stint as the sun set before handing over the car to Antonio Fuoco in the lead, who would ultimately produce a controlled drive to take the chequered flag and score the team’s first win of the season.

The #51 car also had a standout race after starting in ninth place, with Nicklas Nielsen putting in an excellent opening stint. James Calado would likewise keep the car in a podium-contending position.

For the final driver swap, it was Miguel Molina that entered the race to complete the team’s one-two finish for the team after making a brave late race pass around the outside of Signes corner.

In the Gold Cup class, it was the #83 Iron Dames car that produced a finish worthy of its season-long pace so far, gaining one place from their starting position and staying out of trouble as well as showing immense pace to finish in second place.

Fast and consistent opening and middle stints from Sarah Bovy and Rahel Frey respectively, coupled with Michelle Gatting’s final stint in the darkness, was enough to give the Iron Dames their first points of the season, and a well-deserved trophy.

Team Principal of Iron Lynx, Giacomo Piccini, said:

“Today has been an incredible race for the team, with all three cars producing great results to bring home an overall victory and podiums.

“We showed very good pace all weekend, with the #71 and #51 cars being well suited to the hot temperatures and circuit layout here at Paul Ricard.

“Qualifying on pole position was the best place to start, and we used a great tyre strategy and very consistent performances from all drivers.

“The Iron Dames also had an excellent race and all drivers did a brilliant job. Sarah, Rahel and Michelle performed well for the whole six hours to stay in the podium positions throughout. It’s a great result for the team that have shown massive improvements this year, and now we focus on the big one, Le Mans!”

The 2022 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup continues at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium for the world famous Total 24 Hours of Spa on July 30^th and 31st, 2022.
