Doriane Pin extends Ferrari Challenge championship lead with double poles and victories

Today, Italian racing team, Iron Lynx, has successfully concluded its Ferrari Challenge Europe weekend at Hockenheim. Championship leader, Doriane Pin, further extended her title advantage with two dominant pole positions and victories, as Arno Dahlmeyer fought hard to score a double podium finish in the Trofeo Pirelli Am class. Claudio Schiavoni returned to the Coppa Shell series, taking a double top ten finish across the weekend.  

The success started on Saturday, with both Doriane and Arno taking respective podiums during a dramatic race early on. After taking pole position, Doriane lost the lead at turn one before boldly reclaiming it at the following corner, leaving the 18-year-old to take a commanding win. Arno equally avoided early race drama to gain two places from his fifth starting spot, taking a podium finish. 

In race two this afternoon, it was Iron Dame, Doriane, that scored another lights-to-flag victory from pole position, further extending her championship lead as we head to Silverstone in mid-September after the summer break. In the Am class, Arno achieved his best result of the season so far, qualifying in second place and maintaining that in the race to finish runner-up, moving the German-racer to within just two points of the top three in the championship standings. 

In Coppa Shell, Claudio marked his return to the series with a strong and composed drive in race one, gaining a place from his starting position to finish in ninth place. Race two was almost a mirror of the race one result for the Italian, with Claudio taking another ninth-place finish, as well as keeping a cool head in the incidents of the opening laps. 

Iron Lynx Team Principal, Andrea Piccini, said:

“The team did a fantastic job at Hockenheim this weekend. From the beginning, Doriane dominated, showing a pace that couldn’t be matched by her competitors. 

“She’s increased the championship lead once again, scoring the maximum points that were available to her. 

“Arno can be very proud as he achieved his best racing weekend ever, battling hard and scoring two podiums. Claudio also enjoyed his comeback into the Ferrari Challenge, taking two points finishes despite struggling in the opening laps of both races.”  

Having previously competed in Ferrari Challenge at Paul Ricard earlier in the season, Nigel Schoonderwoerd took part in the Club Challenge event and Coppa Shell testing prior to the weekend’s competitive action. 

The 2022 Ferrari Challenge Europe continues at Silverstone on the 17th and 18th September.
