Iron Lynx to partner with Lamborghini for the official LMDh programme in FIA WEC and IMSA

Today, it has been announced that Italian racing team, Iron Lynx, and Lamborghini will officially partner for the manufacturer's LMDh programme.

Speaking at the Super Trofeo Grand Finals Prize Giving this evening in Portimão, Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini Chairman and CEO, and Giorgio Sanna, Lamborghini Head of Motorsport, confirmed that Lamborghini Iron Lynx will lead Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s debut season racing with hybrid technology.

The LMDh car will run a twin-turbo V8 hybrid as Lamborghini embarks on a new technological journey in motorsport with the established and highly-successful Iron Lynx operation. The technical and engineering support for the project will come from PREMA Engineering, a new consultancy division of PREMA Group, which will utilise its 30-year championship-winning racing expertise.

From 2023, supported by Lamborghini Squadra Corse, Iron Lynx will compete in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup and the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Deborah Mayer, Chairwoman of DC Racing Solutions Ltd. – the Swiss-based motorsport company which owns Iron Lynx, Iron Dames and PREMA – said: “I am really pleased that we can share the news about the partnership between Iron Lynx and Lamborghini, which marks a significant milestone for our group. Our championship-winning racing pedigree, combined with the successful motorsport heritage of Lamborghini, will create the perfect mix to deliver a highly-competitive performance on track. I am looking forward to this next chapter.”

Andrea Piccini, Team Principal of Iron Lynx, added: “We are very happy to start this new chapter together with Lamborghini for Iron Lynx and the Iron Dames. Since its debut in 2018 in the Super Trofeo, the team has grown rapidly and has become increasingly competitive, putting together some extraordinary seasons. After a lot of work and preparation, we can not wait to hit the track with Lamborghini and achieve more success.”

Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini Chairman and CEO, commented: “Ever since we announced our intention to race in the LMDh racing series, it was clear to us that Iron Lynx was the right partner to take such an important step with. I am delighted to welcome the team to the Lamborghini family; over the years, Iron Lynx has proven to be a fast, strong and successful entity, just like the Lamborghini motorsport department.”

Giorgio Sanna, Lamborghini Head of Motorsport, said: “I am extremely proud of the partnership with Iron Lynx. It is a team as young as Lamborghini Squadra Corse, which like us, has grown exponentially over the years and has become a protagonist in GT racing around the world after making its debut with us in Super Trofeo in 2018. Now, we find ourselves together again and will strive to be stronger and more mature and set great goals. From GT programmes to LMDh, we have combined the excellence of three Italian organisations, while boasting a technical partnership with PREMA Engineering through Iron Lynx, with whom it is our duty to achieve the best results.”

LMDh

Le Mans Daytona hybrid (LMDh) is a new category of sports prototype race cars set to debut in 2023. It perfectly fits Lamborghini’s plan to hybridise its entire vehicle range by the end of 2024. The LMDh programme will add to Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s already-successful GT programme in GT3 and Super Trofeo.

Lamborghini Iron Lynx will enter the new LMDh class of the FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship as the official Lamborghini team starting from 2024.

GT3

Iron Lynx will compete with the new Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup and the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup, returning to Lamborghini Super Trofeo with the new Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 for 2023.

The team has revealed a striking green livery for its #63 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 to compete in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup and the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup, as well as the logo for Lamborghini Iron Lynx’s LMDh programme.

Iron Lynx will race with the #63 and #19 cars alongside the Iron Dames’ #83 car in the 24 Hours of Daytona, with the #63 and #83 cars contesting the rest of the team’s IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup campaign.

In GT World Challenge Europe, the team will run the #63, #19 and #83 cars in all six Endurance Cup rounds.
