Iron Lynx and Iron Dames kick-off Italian Formula 4 season at Imola
Today, Italian racing team, Iron Lynx, concluded its opening weekend of Italian Formula 4 action at the famous Imola circuit with Iron Dame, Maya Weug, and Ivan Domingues gaining valuable knowledge for the season ahead.
Starting twelfth and sixteenth place respectively for Ivan and Maya in race one on Saturday, both drivers would make their way up the order, showing great potential and bringing home a double points finish, with Ivan in ninth, and Maya scoring her first championship points in tenth place.
In race two on Sunday, Portuguese racer, Ivan Domingues, found himself starting on the front row in second place. Meanwhile the Ferrari Academy driver, Maya Weug, was just behind in third. As the lights went out, Ivan jumped into an early lead, with Maya initially falling back to sixth as the action settled down.
But, as the race progressed, it was Maya Weug that showed determination and confidence to fight back to fourth place before ultimately finishing in sixth. Ivan had a trickier race, finishing seventh. However, he remained cool throughout, claiming a maiden rookie podium place and important points for the team.
The final race of the weekend proved to be more challenging, with pole sitter Ivan Domingues losing the lead at the start before a final lap spin resulted in a twenty-seventh place finish for the Portuguese racer.
Starting from third place, Maya Weug was unfortunately pushed wide on lap one, dropping down to twenty-second. But the Iron Dame impressively regained eight places to fourteenth before unluckily getting involved with Ivan’s incident on the final lap, ultimately finishing in twenty-eighth.
Iron Lynx Team Principal, Andrea Piccini, said:
“Overall, we must take the positives after what has been a challenging weekend for the team.
“With both, Maya and Ivan scoring their first points, as well as Ivan’s first rookie podium and first pole means we have some momentum to build on for the season ahead.
“In race three, we couldn’t capitalise on a strong start, with both drivers unfortunately making contact and compromising our finishing positions, but the pace was quite good all weekend and we must take this forward to Misano.”
The Italian Formula 4 championship continues at Misano on the 4th and 5th June, 2022.
