Iron Lynx and Iron Dames battle intense heat during the 12h of Sebring race

On Saturday, the Iron Lynx and Iron Dames teams returned to the track to compete in the 71st Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring race driving two Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 cars.

During qualifying on Friday, the #63 Iron Lynx car, driven by Franck Perera, qualified 5th in GTDPRO category, while the #83 Iron Dames car, driven by Michelle Gatting, qualified 11th in GTD category.

Franck Perera was joined for the race in the #63 Iron Lynx car by teammates Romain Grosjean and Jordan Pepper, all Lamborghini Factory Drivers. The team crossed the line at the end of the 12h of Sebring P4 in class, gaining one position despite the challenging conditions and a somewhat restrictive BOP for the Lamborghini cars.

This week has been a real test of endurance for the Iron Dames, with Michelle Gatting, Sarah Bovy and Rahel Frey having already competed in the FIA WEC 1000 Miles of Sebring race on Friday; but the trio dug deep on track once again to complete more than 20 hours of competitive track time over just two days. Starting from P11, they battled hard and pushed themselves to the limits, finishing the 12h of Sebring in 11th place.

The Iron Dames were the first all-female line up to take part in the Super Sebring race weekend, racing in FIA WEC and IMSA.

As the chequered flag flew over Sebring, both teams demonstrated the staying power that sets endurance racing apart from other forms of motorsport.

Iron Lynx Team Principal and CEO, Andrea Piccini, said: “We’re very proud of our team and drivers.

We couldn’t have done a better race with the BOP we were given.

Once again, car #63 were a breath away from the podium and the Iron Dames showed a very consistent performance.”

The next IMSA event will be the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen International, 22-25th June 2023.
