Started from the Pole Position, the Ferrari 488 #60 led most of the 4 Hours of Portimao. Unfortunately, a puncture denied Iron Lynx the success in GTE category.
In the fifth and concluding round of the ELMS, the #60 showed again the great potential of the whole team. Started from the first row in the GTE, thanks to a fantastic Pole Position got by Andrea Piccini, the Iron Lynx’s Ferrari was in the lead until one hour and a half from the end.
Rino Mastronardi, Sergio Pianezzola and Andrea Piccini alternated each other at the wheel of the Ferrari #60 being the leaders of the race, when a puncture of a tyre (left rear) forced them to stop compromising any chance of victory.
Back in the race, although in last position, R. Mastronardi and A. Piccini made a fantastic recovery in the last hour race, rising to the third position.
The Iron Dames, Michelle Gatting, Manuela Gostner and Rahel Frey were always fighting for the podium, but they have been betrayed by a tyre, which collapsed few minutes before the checkered flag. The Dames therefore had to settle for sixth place.
The race at Portimao filed the European Le Mans Series 2020 with the Iron Dames M. Gatting, M. Gostner and R. Frey in fourth position in the drivers’ ranking with 61 points. In the team’s ranking Iron Lynx is fourth and seventh, with 61 and 31 points.
Sergio Pianezzola, who is Iron Lynx responsible together with Andrea Piccini, gives his point of view about the end of the season:
It was an extraordinary season with MLMC, ELMS and 24h of Le Mans. We are satisfied of what we obtained, even if we could get more. This pushes us to keep working harder so that we will be present in 2021 determined more than ever to take what our potential deserve.
